| Politics as blood sport --or why the GOP rules
If popular culture has anything to do with the 2008 presidential campaign, it's safe to predict the Republicans will win in an unrealistically violent landslide. Consider this: Mike Huckabee has already recruited tough-guy Chuck Norris and pro wrestler Ric "Nature Boy" Flair to the Grand Old Party's side of the fence. Then last week, just as he was bringing his iconic Rambo character back to the big screen, Sylvester Stallone parachuted into the political arena, mumbling his support for Sen. John McCain. .

Comebacks ignite US primaries race
The results from the US primary elections in recent days have thrown up a fascinating contest for the Presidential nominations of both parties. In an earlier column i had observed that if other countries' elections are like a Test match, the US elections are like an entire Test series, with an ODI tournament thrown in. Both Democrats and Republicans have begun their campaigns with keenly-contested ODIs, with honours even after two unexpected results, and each no longer has a clear uncontested frontrunner. Despite her stunning comeback —against the odds and despite the polls — in New Hampshire, where she benefited from a 57% turnout of women voters, Senator Hillary Clinton is no longer the undisputed leader of the pack of Democrats. For over a year she was Snow White leading the seven dwarves, with such a commanding lead in all the national polls that her nomination by her party as its candidate for President seemed a foregone conclusion.

The NFL regular season has come to a close and the Cleveland Browns just missed making the playoffs. A few weeks ago it sure looked like they were in good shape as far as the post season was concerned, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Still, the Browns did register a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in their final game and there will be high hopes for this team entering the 2008 season. The Brownies finished with a 10-6 record, far exceeding expectations for this team entering 2007. This is the first time this franchise has reached a double digit win total since they re-entered the league in 1999. They provided many thrills for their die hard fans this season and belive me it was long overdue. I grew up in Cleveland and have been a life long Browns fan, so the following opinion might be a bit bias.
