Dallas, Houston make list of top green power purchasers

Wind power has propelled the cities of Dallas and Houston onto the Environmental Protection Agencys national list of top green power purchasers.

Dallas took the No. 9 spot on the National Top 25 list of Green Power Partners by buying 40 percent of its power from wind sources. Houston grabbed the No. 12 spot by using wind power for 20 percent of its purchased-electricity needs.

"Texas leads the nation in wind power production, and Dallas and Houston are leading the way in showing other cities how green power can help protect the environment, said EPA Regional Administrator Richard Greene. "By shifting to wind and other renewable power sources, cities can cut greenhouse gas emissions and change the way we generate energy"

EPAs Green Power Partnership works with more than 850 partner organizations to buy green power voluntarily as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with conventional electricity use and to support the development of new, renewable generation resources nationwide.

Navy SEALS Accomplishment Reinforces American Pride

We spend hours and reams of paper talking about how terrible life can be. We in the press have a saying, "If it bleeds, it leads." Many have made their careers out of being negative about everything having to do with this war. How about we take a minute and feel good about some stuff?

We live in the greatest country on the planet. We have earned our greatness, and will continue to be great, because we have men like Navy SEAL Lt. Mike Murphy. Murphy was recently awarded our nations highest medal for valor, the Congressional Medal of Honor. Mike is the first Navy SEAL to be awarded our highest medal for bravery since Vietnam, and the first one issued for actions in Afghanistan.

Lt. Murphy and three Navy SEALS went behind enemy lines — that's four very brave men going where hundreds should have gone — in search of very bad men in their backyard.

Technology possibilities for the next decade

People will be able to do anything on a hand-held that they can now do on a desktop computer.

In fact, they'll be able to do even more, as mobile gadgets increasingly come equipped with global-positioning-system gear that can track your every move. As you drive around, for instance, you might get reviews of nearby restaurants automatically delivered to a screen in your car - maybe even projected onto the windshield.

The spread of GPS hints at another big change on the horizon. We're going to be under a lot more pressure to make our personal information public - everything from where we surf online to where we're standing at a particular moment. Companies will offer us special deals and other incentives so that we'll let them track our activity. That information, in turn, will let the companies present us with a steady stream of intensely focused marketing whenever we go online, turn on our cellphone or even walk into a store.
